In the play Rifle, the playwright has highlighted the politics and movement of Bengal in the context of the freedom struggle of the 30s and 40s. In the history of the movement of Bengal which is known as the era of 'Agni Yuga' floats in front of the eyes. This is how Utpal Dutta presented history in a new dimension in his works. In 1960 this play has been written, which shows the subject of 1934 uprising revolutionary organisation in Baharampur, Murshidabad district India. The dramatist has embodied the ambivalence between the revolutionaries and Gandhians about the freedom movement in an extraordinary dramatization. Of course, in this dualism, Uppal Dutta believes in revolutionism.
To look back at that history, we present this 'Rifle'. This play planed and constructed by Shubham Chatterjee.
